This activity is great for fine motor skills and creativity. It also gets children looking more closely at vegetables and their structure.
Suitable for 9 months to school age children.
You will need:
- Vegetables - Potatoes, Broccoli, Celery, Apples etc - use anything that is cheap, going to waste etc.
- Paper
- Paint
Preparation:
Potato:
- Cut the potato in half and draw a triangle on the side that has been cut.
- Cut around the triangle leaving the triangle raised in the centre.
Apple:
- Cut the apple in half so there is an upper and lower part to the apple.
Method:
- Press into paint.
- Press firmly onto paper.
Activity suggestions:
This activity is great for making wrapping paper, borders for pictures, and gift labels.
Talk:
- Talk about what they expect the prints to be like before doing them and after.
- Note how the core and seeds of some fruits make patterns.
- Talk about the different fruits and vegetables and what they are like to eat.
- Talk about how some are much softer and easier to cut than others.
