This is a really interesting article on creativity.
Intelligence and creativity “IQ scores are going up while creativity is going down” from The Creativity Crisis by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman in Newsweek.
One of the frequent questions that came up when we were dealing with schools was why some children with very high IQ scores would excel at school while others found school difficult and demoralising. A theory put forward in the gifted education field was the idea of “conforming gifted” versus “non-conforming gifted” – which sounds no more convincing to me now than it did then. The ideas in this article could provide a much better explanation.
It is an American article about American schools and, like all such articles, assumes that other countries are doing better. To me it sounds like it would apply to many countries including Australia, and including homeschoolers.
